SIGNIFICANCE OF THE GAMBIA COAT-OF-ARMS
The Shield of Arm is divided into three colours symbolizing the three
main virtues of The Gambian people. Blue means Love and loyalty of the
people of The Gambia. It also represents the great River upon whose abundance
many of the people of The Gambia depend. White indicates the peaceful
and law-abiding, nature of tile people of The Gambia and their friendliness
to all other people of the world. Green portrays their hope and broadmindedness.
It also represents The Gambia's agriculture and natural resources, and
her main hope for advancement through their development.
The Arms or -charges consist of an Axe and a Hoe which are native to -The

people. Being amongst the most common and useful implements utilized by

The Gold colour also conveys the sense of how the future prosperity of
The Gambia greatly depends upon agriculture.
The Crest is the stately and dignified Palm tree from whose useful products
