The Maori are a Polynesian ethnic group that came to the islands of New Zealand in the South Pacific Ocean, possibly northern islands like Rarotonga or Tongatapu. The Maori word meaning “common, standard” in the Maori language.
Among the best examples of Maori art are pectoral ornaments of jade, carved in the form of mythical hei-tiki, deformed human body, weapons of war, made of wood or bone, and large wooden boxes. In all these objects the plot extends drawing spirals and meanders of exquisite elegance and decorative sensibility.
